Founded in Luxembourg in 1985 within the Cabo Verdean community, Grupo Pilon played its first public concert on 1 May 1986 in Bonnevoie. From the beginning, the band chose to defend the funaná of Santiago and carry it beyond borders.

Over the years, Grupo Pilon recorded five albums: Tradição, Nos Meninos, Di Volta, Leite Quente and Nu Sta Li. Each record reflects a period in the band’s history, the musicians who shared the journey and its deep connection to Cabo Verdean culture.

From Luxembourg to Cabo Verde, through many European stages and the United States, Grupo Pilon continues the same mission: to keep funaná alive, honour its roots and pass this music on to new generations.
